  • Becoming a Solicitor

The Professional Solicitor Apprenticeship offers a new route into the legal profession, combining learning with practical experience from day one.

Rather than taking the traditional university route, you'll work in a real legal role, earn a salary and start building your career from the outset. Along the way, you'll achieve recognised qualifications while working towards becoming a solicitor.

Why choose the solicitor apprenticeship?

The apprenticeship programme lets you:

  • Earn while you learn with paid employment from the start
  • Gain recognised qualifications as you progress through the programme
  • Get real legal experience working alongside legal professionals
  • Learn with the Law Society of Ireland while developing professional skills and knowledge
  • Build your career close to home while supporting your local community
  • Follow a clear pathway towards becoming a solicitor

How it works

As an apprentice, you'll combine work and study throughout the programme. Typically, you'll spend:

  • Four days a week working with your employer
  • One day a week attending classes or undertaking study through a mix of online and in-person learning

This allows you to put your learning into practice while gaining valuable workplace experience from the very beginning.

Over six to seven years, you'll complete a series of professional training milestones while building your career and working towards becoming a solicitor.

Is this for you?

A solicitor apprenticeship could be a great fit if you:

  • Are interested in law and helping people
  • Want to start your career after school
  • Prefer learning through practical experience
  • Want to earn a salary while studying
  • Are motivated, organised and ready to take on a challenge

To apply, you'll need to be at least 18 years old when starting the apprenticeship.

Be among the first apprentices to join this new route to qualification, starting in September 2027.
