The new programme offers law clerks and legal executives a structured apprenticeship pathway to becoming a solicitor.
Developed by the Law Society, our programme combines professional education with workplace learning, creating a clear route from legal support roles to qualification as a solicitor.
The first apprenticeship cohort is expected to commence in September 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

How does it work?
Apprentices remain employed throughout the programme while completing professional education and training through the Law Society.
Learning is delivered through a blend of online and in-person education including the following:
- Diploma in Legal Skills for Legal Executives
- Diploma in Law
- FE-1 examinations
- Professional Practice Course (Hybrid)
- Training contract
The full pathway is expected to take approximately five to six years.
