A Law Society survey that’s open until 18 April 2025 is seeking feedback from in-house and other practising solicitors to prepare the profession for the future. We encourage you to please complete this survey to share your insights and help us to create Law Society priorities that best match the diverse needs of the profession.

A previous survey in 2023 gave us a better understanding of the needs of in-house solicitors and informed our current strategy, including development of more targetted services. See below for details.

The 2025 survey is another opportunity for you to influence our priorities and services. You can share your views in our online survey by 18 April 2025. If you have not received an email with a survey link from our research partner Ipsos B&A, please contact solicitorservices@lawsociety.ie.

What we learned in 2023 – key results for in-house solicitors

Results from a Law Society member survey in 2023 highlighted the challenges and opportunities for solicitors and informed the current Law Society strategy. The key takeaways from this information are summarised in:

The top five issues noted in 2023 as extremely challenging for the in-house and public sector were cybersecurity (46%), recruitment and talent retention (35%), keeping pace with technology (35%), regulation compliance (26%) and wellbeing (25%).

We have been enhancing and adding services to address these issues as follows:

  • Cyber security: New guidance and online CPD is available online. See the cyber security hub.
  • Talent: In terms of career support, solicitors can use our Legal Vacancies website and join our Women in Leadership Mentoring programme.
  • Technology: Our training sections have been holding Webinars and CPD workshops on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the 2025 MOOC on AI commences on 10 June. A new online Technology hub is in development.
  • Regulation: Regulation Answers has been launched on lawsociety.ie bringing together all regulation services in one online location and includes a free helpline for solicitor queries.
  • Wellbeing: A subsidised, independent counselling service, LegalMind, is offered to all practising solicitors, as well as ongoing ‘Well Within the Law’ webinars, events and on-demand training through the Professional Wellbeing Hub. Keep up-to-date on in-house news and services through the Law Society’s in-house practice area and dedicated LinkedIn Group.
