Supporting our profession in a digital age
Why the Law Society of Ireland Built the Legal Tech Hub.
By Gillian Cregan, Director of Finance and Operations
Technology is transforming the way solicitors work—and fast. Over the past few years, I’ve heard first-hand from colleagues across the profession about the challenges (and opportunities) this digital shift brings.
From staying on top of emerging tools to tackling cyber security concerns, solicitors have been clear: they want practical, accessible support to navigate this landscape with confidence.
That’s why, together with colleagues at the Law Society, we’ve built the Legal Tech Hub—launched 21 August.
Built for solicitors, by people who understand the profession
The Hub isn’t just another information portal. It’s a comprehensive, continually updated resource designed to help you make sense of legal tech and apply it directly in your work—whether in private practice or in-house.
A major challenge — and a major opportunity
When we spoke to solicitors earlier this year, the message was loud and clear:
- 88% identified cyber security and cybercrime as pressing challenges;
- 81% felt keeping up with technology was a significant concern;
- and encouragingly, 52% also saw new technologies as an opportunity, while 49% recognised growth potential in cybercrime prevention.
These insights shaped our approach to building the Hub. We wanted to create something responsive and useful.
What’s inside?
We’ve brought together a wide range of Law Society resources in one place, including:
- expert commentary on AI and its implications for the profession - including guidance on how developments like the EU AI Act could impact your work;
- templates and policies that can help reduce cyber risks - especially useful if you're reviewing internal systems or advising on firm-wide protocols; and
- practice Notes and ethical guidance developed by our committees to help ensure technology is used both effectively and responsibly.
Whether you're just starting to explore AI tools, or already leading tech initiatives in your firm - there’s something here for you.
Tailored support for your unique role
Pressures and priorities can look different depending on your role, so we’ve also curated content accordingly:
- If you’re in private practice, you’ll find practical advice on client data security, legal tech integration, and navigating regulatory obligations.
- For those working in-house, the Hub includes guidance on advising internal teams, managing tech-related risks, and aligning legal input with broader business goals.
More than a website—it’s a living resource
Technology doesn’t stand still, and neither will the Legal Tech Hub. You can expect:
- regular updates as new tools, risks, and regulations emerge;
- clear signposting when content is added or updated; and
- removing anything that’s no longer relevant.
It’s our way of making sure you always have access to the best, most up-to-date information - right when you need it.
I hope you’ll find the Legal Tech Hub useful, and I look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to grow and refine it together.
