Social Media Law MOOC – speakers announced

Meet the experts secured for this year's free online course, starting 30 May.

The Diploma Centre is delighted to announce speakers and topics for the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on ‘Social Media and the Law’ which kicks off on Tuesday 30 May and runs for 5 weeks.

Speakers and topics

This course will include: 

  • The rise of disinformation/fake news - Ciarán O’Connor, Senior Analyst, Institute for Strategic Dialogue;

  • Content moderation - Siobhan Cummiskey, Director of Content Policy, Meta;

  • Freedom of speech and defamation online - Dr. Eoin O’Dell, Associate Professor, School of Law, Trinity College Dublin;

  • Social media and the Courts - Daniel Coady, Solicitor and Principal Privacy Counsel, RTÉ;

  • Online safety and media regulation - Niamh Hodnett, Online Safety Commissioner, Coimisiun na Meán; and

  • Chat GPT, AI and the future of social media – David Kerrigan, Technology analyst, Author and speaker on emerging technologies.

The MOOC is free to join and open to all – no previous knowledge of or experience in the legal sector is needed to join the course. It is possible to register for the course at any point until 30 June; all content is recorded and available to view on demand.

Lectures will be released over a 5-week period and there are 7 CPD points available for completing the MOOC.
