Having access to the latest, high-quality training is key to practising as a solicitor.

The Law Society offers CPD courses that are designed by solicitors for solicitors and available in-person or online (live or on-demand).

Over 22,000 attendances by solicitors were recorded at 169 Law Society CPD courses and events in 2023 provided by Law Society Skillnet and our Diploma Centre. As well as meeting professional development requirements, attendees chose from a wide variety of topics and qualifications ranging from Certificates and Diplomas to Master’s degrees (LLM Advanced Legal Practice and the LLM Employment Law in Practice), and a Professional Doctorate in Law. The annual free Massive Open Online Course is also popular – last year over 1,000 solicitors registered to learn more about social media and the law. In 2024, the topic is Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and starts on 11 June.

Learning and networking

Attending events like the regional Law Society Skillnet Clusters is a great opportunity for practice updates as well as meeting fellow lawyers. Each year 10 Cluster events are held in conjunction with Bar Associations around the country. The next event takes place in Newmarket on Fergus, Co. Clare on 20 June, followed by Kerry on 11 September.

The quality and range of CPD training is just one of many services available that are used by thousands of solicitors each year. Explore what’s available on www.lawsociety.ie/solicitor-services or contact the Law Society to see what we can do for you.
