Speaker: Ruth Murphy, Head of Legal, Google Ireland 

Prior to joining Google, she served as General Counsel of BT's Enterprise business in the UK and Ireland. Ruth has more than 20 years' experience advising multinational technology companies and is recognised for her leadership in navigating legal, regulatory, and business challenges in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.  

Ruth shared her perspective on leading legal teams through a period of rapid technological change. Drawing on her experience at Google Ireland and previously at BT, she discussed practical AI use cases, legal team governance, skills development, AI literacy, and how lawyers can use technology to become more strategic and impactful advisers.

Scaling Legal Organisations for the AI Era

Speaker: Áine Lyons, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Workday

A recognised leader in legal transformation and innovation, she is a co-founder and former President of the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC). She has held senior legal leadership positions at VMware and Workday and has received multiple international awards for leadership and innovation in the legal profession.

Áine explored how legal teams can prepare for an AI-enabled future. The discussion covered legal operations, responsible AI governance, trusted content, simplification, organisational design, and the skills lawyers will need to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven environment.

Speaker: Matt Fawcett, Chief Legal Officer, DXC Technology 

Matt Fawcett is Chief Legal Officer of DXC Technology, a global Fortune 500 technology services company. He has served as General Counsel of several public companies and is widely recognised for his leadership in legal operations, innovation, and the use of technology to transform legal service delivery.

Matt shared practical insights from leading a global legal team of approximately 400 professionals across 35 countries. The discussion explored AI adoption, legal innovation, the future development of junior lawyers, and how in-house legal departments can use AI to become more strategic business partners.

Digital Transformation in Corporate Legal: Where Do You Start?

Speaker:   Chris Fowler, Chief Operating Officer, Legal, Governance & Corporate Affairs, Rio Tinto  

Prior to joining Rio Tinto, he spent more than 24 years with BT Group, where he held a variety of senior legal and operational leadership roles, including General Counsel for BT Technology and Chief Operating Officer of BT's Legal, Governance & Compliance function.

Drawing on leadership experience at Rio Tinto and BT Group, Chris discussed how legal teams can successfully approach digital transformation. Topics included knowledge management, AI adoption, leadership, culture change, and the importance of building trust and strong foundations before introducing new technology.

Speaker:   Bjarne Tellmann, CEO, FjordStream Advisors; former General Counsel, Pearson plc  

Bjarne Tellmann is CEO of FjordStream Advisors and a recognised global legal leader with more than 30 years of international experience. He previously served as General Counsel of Pearson plc and was Founding General Counsel of Haleon, where he played a key role in one of the largest corporate spin-offs and listings in modern UK corporate history. He is the author of Building an Outstanding Legal Team and Law in the Era of AI.

Bjarne examined how AI is reshaping the legal profession and why corporate legal departments are likely to drive much of the transformation taking place across the legal industry. The session explored legal department operating models, disruption theory, leadership, law firm innovation, and the future skills lawyers will need in an AI-enabled world.
