Position overview:

The In-House Counsel will report to and assist the Group General Counsel (and the other members of the Group Legal Team) facilitate accurate and timely delivery of commercial legal and contractual advice to the Group and the five Divisions within the business. Through their experience as a private practice or in-house lawyer (preferably, specialising in the construction/building materials sector), the successful candidate will have an understanding of the key legal issues for a global manufacturer and be used to working with and advising senior leaders on how to identify and manage such issues.

The Group Legal Team is based in the state-of-the-art Group Head Office in Kingscourt, Ireland, but there will be flexibility to work from home - with a 60/40 split envisaged. Travel to Kingspan’s facilities outside of Ireland will be required occasionally.

Key responsibilities:

  • Draft, negotiate and analyse a diverse range of commercial contracts including key procurement agreements, technology development agreements, licensing agreements, as well as financing agreements
  • Conduct legal audits on businesses within the Divisions (particularly newly acquired businesses)
  • Build positive working relationships with senior leaders within the business to ensure business needs are understood and effectively delivered
  • Provide training to internal stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including ad hoc projects as deemed appropriate by the Group General Counsel
  • Be a collegiate member of the Group Legal function and assist in the development and motivation of that team and collaboration with the Divisional In-House Counsel

Your skills and expertise: 

  • Qualified as a Solicitor (or equivalent) in a common law jurisdiction
  • Circa 5 years post qualification experience in the construction or manufacturing sector - private practice or in-house
  • Familiarity with current and developing legal issues and the regulatory environment in the construction sector
  • Ability to understand legal, commercial and operational factors and provide competent legal advice and counsel to senior business leaders on a wide range of legal and commercial issues
  • Strong drafting skills
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with internal stakeholders and Divisional In-House Counsel
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work on own initiative
  • High level of personal and professional integrity
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Able to work to deadlines
