In this section learn more about the type of searches you can do and what the solicitor categories mean.
Searching Solicitors by name
- Narrow your search using other filters, for example County and practising status.
- Do not enter the middle initial.
- If you cannot find a solicitor, check the other filters. Eg are they based outside Ireland (Rest of World or Northern Ireland), or are they in a different category, eg Locum Solicitor.
Searching for a Firm
- The Firm search allows partial name searches, but you need to enter at least three letters.
- The name must match our database. Eg if the name has a '&' and you enter 'and', it will not find it.

Information regarding a firm’s professional indemnity insurance can be found on the Society’s website through the “Find a Firm” search facility.
The Society maintains a register of practising solicitors pursuant to Section 47(4) of the Solicitors Act 1954 as substituted by Section 54 of the Solicitors (Amendment) Act 1994 and this may be inspected at the Society’s premises during office hours. Queries relating to practising certificates should be directed to the Practice Regulation Section by email at pc@lawsociety.ie.
