Aim and Objectives
The Conference is designed by the EU & International Affairs Committee in partnership with Law Society Professional Training. It will focus on the law currently regulating the internet, its efficacy and proposed developments.

Speakers

Dr Johnny Ryan, Chief Policy and Industrial Relations Officer, Brave
Dr Johnny Ryan FRHistS is Chief Policy & Industry Relations Officer at Brave, the private web browser. Dr Ryan initiated GDPR actions to reform the $40B RTB industry, prompting investigation of Google and the IAB (the tracking industry’s standards body) by European data protection authorities. He has testified on these matters at the United States Senate and at the European Commission. He previously worked for a publisher and for an adtech company. He is cited in The New York Times, The Financial Times, The Economist, and many others. He has a PhD from the University of Cambridge, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society

Andrew Robinson, Senior Manager, Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Andrew is a senior manager at the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI), the regulator of radio and television broadcasting in Ireland. His work is focused on preparation for the implementation of the revised Audiovisual Media Services Directive, and in particular facilitating the development of BAI policy positions on its key provisions. He is an active participant in European and national fora dealing with audiovisual policy and legislative matters, including the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA) and the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA). He previously held the role of Policy Manager at the BAI with responsibility for the development of broadcasting codes and guidelines for public service broadcasters.

Mark Carpenter, Head of Corporate Affairs, Sky Ireland
Mark is Head of Corporate Affairs at Sky Ireland. He has responsibility for public policy and public affairs and for building strategic relationships with key industry partners and business groups. He also works closely with other members of the Sky Ireland management team on issues of strategy, regulation, communications and corporate social responsibility. He previously worked in the Fine Gael Policy Office, as a consultant for the European Commission and as a Management Consultant with Accenture. He holds a BA in History from Oxford University and a PhD in Political Science from Trinity College Dublin.
