The International Affairs Talk is an annual event organised by the EU & International Affairs Committee of the Law Society which brings together high profile national and international speakers to discuss current international issues. Previous talks include: Lending to Governments: A Lawyer’s Perspective; the Role of the Oireachtas under the Lisbon Treaty; The Arab Spring: What next? –Restoring the rule of law in MENA Countries; External Relations, Security and Defence in the EU; The Ukraine Crisis: legal and political issue; and The Refugee crises: A challenge for Europe.
The VII Annual International Affairs Talk will bring together three experts in the field to address the effect the international response to terrorism has on practitioners and their clients in this jurisdiction. This event will be of interest to all lawyers. It will analyse the multiple aspects involved in the fight against international terrorism to include the following topics:
- Changes to security systems introduced in light of recent terrorist attacks
- Police co-ordination and information sharing
- Balance of fundamental rights
- AML for terrorist financing
- Review of the Schengen Agreement
