William Fry has appointed Dr Eva Barrett as consultant in its projects-and-construction team.
Dr Barrett joins the firm from Solar Ireland, where she was director of policy and regulation.
William Fry says that her appointment adds senior EU and Irish energy-regulatory expertise to its energy, climate, and environmental law practice.
At Solar Ireland, Dr Barrett led the trade association's regulatory engagement on RESS (Renewable Energy Support Scheme) 6, grid and planning reform, and the implementation of the Net Zero Industry Act, working directly with Government, the CRU, and EirGrid.
She has over 16 years of experience across private practice, regulatory leadership, EU institutional work at the European Commission, and academic roles at Trinity College Dublin and Vermont Law School.
William Fry says that the combination, of practitioner, industry regulatory strategist, and EU insider is unusual in the Irish market and gives the new consultant a perspective most energy lawyers do not have.
“The rules that shape our energy market are made in Brussels long before they land in Dublin. Eva understands how those decisions are taken and how to influence them,” said Fergus Devine (partner and head of William Fry’s energy group).
Dr Barrett said that she was joining the firm at a point where the regulatory architecture for Irish renewables was being rewritten.
