McGrath keynote to probe intersection of law and tech

International Disputes Week 2026 (DIDW) will take place across Dublin from 19-23 October.

The question of whether the foundations of modern democracy and the rule of law are still fit for today's world will open the week’s events.

Speakers on the topic will include US Judge Loretta A Preska, along with chair of Ireland for Law, former Taoiseach Enda Kenny and former Mayor of Bristol Lord Marvin Rees.

Now in its fifth year, DIDW is organised by Ireland for Law, a Government of Ireland initiative established by the Minister for Justice in 2019 to promote Ireland as a leading global centre for international legal services.

Bringing together leading figures from politics, public service, the judiciary, and the legal profession, the DIDW 2026 programme will also explore:

  • Realities of regulating social media,
  • Changing dynamics of shareholder disputes, and
  • Legal implications of rapidly advancing technologies, including AI.

Following the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) decision that EU courts can review international sports arbitration awards, William McAuliffe (UEFA head of disciplinary), Benoit Keane, (Avocat with Keane Legal, main picture), and Susan Ahern SC will discuss the future of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Other speakers include:

  • Rossa Fanning SC, Attorney General,
  • European Commissioner Michael McGrath, and
  • Mr Justice David Barniville, President of the High Court.

Citizens' rights

Commissioner McGrath will deliver a keynote address exploring the intersection of law, technology, and the future of justice, with a particular focus on safeguarding citizens' rights, promoting fair digital markets, and upholding democratic values in an increasingly digital world.

Stephen O’Connor (DIDW co-chair) commented: “Dublin International Disputes Week has become a key international forum for the exchange of ideas and to address the evolving challenges of dispute resolution.

“As the EU's only English-speaking common law jurisdiction, Ireland is uniquely positioned to provide a trusted, innovative, and business-friendly environment for resolving international disputes, and is the perfect global hub for these vital debates and discussions."

This year’s co-sponsors of DIDW are Legora and Newcode AI.
