The International Bar Association (IBA) has launched a worldwide event to celebrate women professionals in the legal sector.
IBA Women’s Day was launched on International Women’s Day (8 March) by the IBA President Almudena Arpón de Mendívil Aldama (pictured).
The IBA says that the event is aimed at inspiring and guiding the younger generation in their professional careers, with experienced women sharing their experiences to reach and maintain senior positions.
30 jurisdictions – including Ireland – are expected to participate in the event.
The international organisation is hoping that IBA Women’s Day will become an annual fixture in its calendar.
The day will include simultaneous events, in the form of ‘fireside chats’ or panels, taking place across several jurisdictions around the world.
The gatherings will include interactive question-and-answer sessions, as well as time for networking.
Addressing gender equality in the legal profession is one of the IBA’s priorities for the term 2023/2024.
Two years ago, the association launched a ‘50/50 by 2030’ project – a longitudinal study into gender disparity in law.
