McEntee agenda for justice department reform

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee will implement a departmental ‘goals and values’ strategy shake-up by year-end.

A public consultation call has been issued and stakeholders requested to submit their ideas on reform and improved public service across the justice sector.

The plan will prioritise:

  • Tackling crime, preserving national security and transforming policing,
  • Improving access to justice and modernisation of the courts system,
  • Strengthening community safety, reducing re-offending, supporting victims and combatting domestic violence,
  • Delivering a fair immigration system for a digital age,
  • Accelerating innovation, digital transformation and climate action across the justice sector.

Minister McEntee commented: “I will lead a programme of change and reform across the justice sector, to make our communities safer by reducing re-offending and harm.

“I want to hear from people and organisations across the country.

Listening

“And after we publish our plan, regular implementation reports and listening to people through ongoing consultation will be key parts of the process,” she said.

The strategic plan will also outline how the Department of Justice will work across Government to drive reform and further its core vision of ‘a safe, fair and inclusive’ Ireland.
