Law Society renews commitment to Irish lawyers in London
The Law Society has renewed its commitment to Irish solicitors working in London, pledging sustained support, stronger networks, and an ongoing dialogue to better understand the expectations, ambitions, and experiences of this cohort.
Speaking at the Law Society London Irish Network launch event at the Law Society of England and Wales in Chancery Lane, President Rosemarie Loftus spoke about the global reach of Irish legal talent.
The president described London as a vital hub for legal careers across private practice, in-house, finance, technology, and public service, with rapid changes in the profession driven by technology, internationalisation, and evolving client expectations.
Ongoing conversation
“London has long been an important destination for Irish solicitors,” President Rosemarie Loftus said, adding that, if she were at the start of her career, she would likely have been lured by the bright lights of the city.
"Tonight is intended to be the start of an ongoing conversation, rather than just a one-act event,” she told attendees, who she said reflected the “strength, reach and influence of the Irish legal profession, far beyond our shores”.
“The Law Society of Ireland will be an anchor and connector for the lifetime of the solicitor,” she told the large attendance in the Chancery Lane reading room.
The president outlined the Law Society’s strategy to deliver even more integrated and solicitor-focused services.
Feedback
Solicitors, no matter where they were in the career, remained part of the Law Society community, the president added, asking for feedback on which type of support would be most valuable.
“The Law Society is immensely proud of the contribution our solicitors make internationally.
“We want to ensure that the voice of solicitors remains at the centre of what we do.
“My hope is that this London community continues to grow and becomes a strong an enduring part of the wider legal community,” the president concluded.
