The patents of precedence ceremony for new senior counsel took place on a remote basis at the Four Courts today, in line with public-health guidelines.
Chief Justice Frank Clarke called new barristers to the Bar and SC to the Inner Bar.
He also welcomed Sir Declan Morgan, Lord Chief Justice of NI to the online ceremony.
This morning's ceremony was for barristers only. However, on Friday, for the first time ever, 17 solicitors will receive their patents of precedence, also in a virtual ceremony.
Invitation
At the invitation of the Chief Justice Frank Clarke, Michele O’Boyle, President of the Law Society, will be in attendance at Friday’s ceremony, as 17 solicitors receive their patents of precedence.
In ordinary circumstances, the presentation ceremony takes place in the Supreme Court, with family and friends in attendance.
However, solicitors’ guests will be able to view the online presentation ceremony, subject to a maximum of 20 devices logging in for each ceremony. Solicitors will not be required to robe, but are requested to wear business attire.
