JAC starts process for High Court posts

The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) has launched a selection process to fill three vacancies in the High Court.

The closing date for applications and references is Thursday 18 June (5pm).

Applicants must register, complete and submit their application through the online portal, which can be accessed from the commission’s website.

The commission is encouraging applicants to contact their referee(s) as early as possible in the process to give them enough time to complete and submit any references.

The reference form and guidance on references are available on the JAC website.

Transitional arrangement

Established on 1 January 2025, the JAC replaced the former Judicial Appointments Advisory Board (JAAB) under the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2023.

Under the JAC system, three people are recommended to Government for a vacancy, while an additional two recommendations are made for a second and additional vacancies.

The commission is to conduct the process under a transitional arrangement, as provided for in section 60 of the 2023 act.

This transitional arrangement will apply until a judicial-selection statement, required under section 75 of the 2023 act, is finalised.
