Event on legal view of Ireland’s place in EU

The Irish Centre for European Law (ICEL) and the Chief State Solicitor's Office (CSSO) are to co-host a conference marking Ireland’s EU presidency in Blackhall Place next week.

The event, entitled ‘Ireland’s enduring place and why it matters: the legal view’, will take place on Friday 13 November (2-6pm) and will be followed by a networking reception.

The organisers say that conference will provide a forum for public discussion and debate on Ireland’s enduring place in Europe and why it matters from a legal standpoint.

Tickets are now available.

AG’s keynote address

Court of Appeal judge Mr Justice Anthony Collins, who is also the ICEL president, will deliver the opening remarks, with a keynote address from Attorney General (AG) Rossa Fanning SC.

The closing keynote address will be delivered by Maria Browne (Chief State Solicitor).

The moderator of the first of two panel discussions will be Marion Berry (director general, Office of the Attorney General).

The speakers will be former AGs Paul Gallagher SC and Senator Michael McDowell SC.

ICEL director David Fennelly SC will moderate the second discussion, which will also include:

  • Karen Banks (former deputy director general, EU Commission Legal Service),
  • Christine Comiskey (Assistant Chief State Solicitor, constitutional and State-litigation division),
  • Regina O'Connor (former senior policy advisor at the European Parliament, EU Council, and European Commission), and
  • Tobias Lock (head of School of Law and Criminology, Maynooth University).

Four CPD hours are available for attendance at the event.
