The Government has nominated Ms Justice Nuala Butler of the High Court for appointment to the Court of Appeal.
At a meeting earlier this week, the Government also decided to appoint the President of the High Court Mr Justice David Barniville to the Special Criminal Courts with immediate effect.
He replaces the former High Court president. Ms Justice Mary Irvine, who retired earlier this month.
The Courts Service says that arrangements will be made for the appointment and swearing in of Ms Justice Butler to the Court of Appeal in due course.
She had been appointed to the High Court in 2020.
Educated at UCD and King’s Inns, Ms Justice Butler joined the Bar in 1986 and the Inner Bar in 2003.
She has served as a member of the Employment Appeals Tribunal, as chair of the Mining Board, and as chair of the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for Ireland.
