Revenue extends filing deadline for LPT

Revenue has extended the deadline for filing Local Property Tax (LPT) returns by three days to 5pm on Wednesday 10 November.

The tax body has also extended opening hours for its LPT helpline in the days leading up to the deadline.

As a result of changes to the LPT system, properties were to be revalued on 1 November, with valuations being reviewed subsequently every four years. This year’s revaluation is the first since the tax was introduced in 2013.

‘Every effort to comply'

More than one million LPT returns have already been filed, with more than 250,000 of those coming in the last three days. There have also been more than 80,000 calls to the helpline in the last three days.

“With this high level of engagement expected to continue to increase further in the coming days, it is clear that property owners are making every effort to fully comply with their LPT obligations,” Revenue said.

It added that it was conscious that the issue was causing “a degree of worry and stress” for property owners who did not usually engage directly with Revenue.

Revenue’s LPT Helpline is (01-7383626) will be open from 8am until 8pm on Monday and Tuesday of next week, as well as from 8am to 5pm on deadline day. It is also open on Saturday and Sunday
