Judges nominated for appointment  to Supreme, Circuit and District Courts

Justice Marie Baker to go to the Supreme Court

The Government has nominated Justice Marie Baker for appointment by President Michael D Higgins (both pictured above) to the Supreme Court, Judge Rosemary Horgan for appointment to the Circuit Court, and solicitor John Campbell for appointment to the District Court.

The Supreme Court vacancy arises from the retirement of Mrs Justice Susan Denham, the Circuit Court vacancy from to the retirement of Judge Thomas Teehan and the District Court vacancy following the retirement of Judge Aingeal Ní Chondúin.

Solicitor John Campbell (small picture) was educated at Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and the Dublin Institute of Technology, now the Technological University. He was enrolled as a solicitor in 1988 and works in the Law Society regulation department.

Presiding officer

Previously, he was principal solicitor in Campbell and Company. He also was a member of the panel of presiding officers for the Garda Síochána Disciplinary Regulations and the Residential Institutions Redress Board.

Judge Rosemary Horgan was educated at University College Cork and enrolled as a solicitor in 1979. She is currently a judge in the District Court and served as its president from 2012 until earlier this year.

Judge Horgan was also associated with the Legal Aid Board (1980-1998) and is a former partner at Ronan Daly Jermyn Solicitors.
