The Regulation Officer will report directly to the CEO and will play an important role in supporting the Credit Union’s governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
The role will contribute to the delivery of the Credit Union’s strategic objectives by helping to ensure strong compliance practices, effective risk oversight, and adherence to all legislative and regulatory requirements.
The Regulation Officer will support key assurance activities and work closely with Internal and External Audit to maintain an effective and coordinated assurance environment.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the Credit Union’s Risk, Compliance, AML/CFT, and Data Protection frameworks Contribute to the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of material risks across the organisation.
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and review of policies, frameworks, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and best practice Support the preparation and timely submission of regulatory returns and reports to the Central Bank.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and highlight key updates and implications for the organisation Prepare and contribute to reports for the CEO, Board, and relevant Committees, providing updates on compliance and risk matters.
- Support the oversight of outsourced service providers, including assisting with due diligence and ongoing monitoring.
- Engage with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders as required.
- Support the preparation of regulatory and compliance reports and related documentation.
- Work closely with Internal and External Audit to support audit processes and the timely resolution of findings.
- Attend and contribute to Board and Committee meetings as required.
- Promote a culture of compliance, ethical conduct, and risk awareness across the Credit Union Support staff training and awareness initiatives relating to compliance and risk.
- Assist with sustainability initiatives relating to energy, water, and waste, where appropriate.
- Undertake such other reasonable and lawful duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Candidate Profile
A proactive and motivated individual with experience in risk, compliance, AML/CFT, data protection, or a related role within financial services.
- Approximately 3+ years’ relevant experience in a regulated environment.
- A relevant third-level qualification in business, finance, law, or a related discipline.
- Good analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- An interest in regulatory developments and a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Experience in the credit union or financial services sector is desirable.
- A relevant Risk or Compliance qualification (or progress towards same) is an advantage.
