Lawyers shouldn't call in person to jailed clients

The Irish Prison Service (IPS) has been implementing measures to protect prisoners in custody during the pandemic.

The IPS has requested that practitioners do not call in person to visit a client in prison unless absolutely necessary.

Steps

The Governor of Operations, Ms Kathy Hoctor, has sent a letter to interested Law Society members outlining the steps taken to date, and arrangements to ensure continuity of service in the coming weeks.

Access to video link professional visits are available in all closed prisons, although there is pressure on this service.
