This year’s Law Society Skillnet Wellbeing Summit takes a fresh perspective on how to navigate change across a legal career (6 October).

It will hear from a range of solicitors including Eleanor Daly of Meta (pictured).

Bringing together psychology, solicitor perspectives, practical career insight and future-focused perspectives, the afternoon will explore what happens when familiar roles, routines or expectations shift and what can help us move forward. 

The convenor is Law Society past President Michael Quinlan (partner Dixon Quinlan Solicitors and chair of Law Society Professional Wellbeing Steering Group).

The keynote interview is with broadcaster and champion camogie player Anna Geary on the topic of performance through change.

Psychology of change

What happens to our confidence, performance, and sense of direction when familiar roles, goals or identities begin to shift? 

This conversation will explore the psychology of navigating change, focusing on what is within our control, the mindsets and behaviours that support adaptation, and how we can continue to perform and move forward when the next chapter is not yet completely clear.

The interviewer is Mary Duffy, Law Society Psychological Services executive and chartered work and organisational psychologist.

Career transitions can bring new opportunities alongside periods of uncertainty and changing priorities.

Drawing on the experiences of solicitors at different career stages, the first panel discussion will explore the practical realities of navigating career transitions – from progression and changing roles to balancing professional and personal priorities. 

Panellists will share the decisions, supports and lessons that have helped them navigate change and shape their careers. 

Speakers are:

• Solicitor Rebecca McKittrick (Power Law LLP) a member of both Law Society Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and Younger Members Committee,
• Laurie Grace, managing partner Grace Solicitors LLP and head of conveyancing and property department,
• Chair: Diego Gallagher senior solicitor with Tusla and Law Society Human Rights Committee member and past President of the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association (DSBA).

The second panel discussion is on navigating future-focused transitions in legal practice.

It will ask how might legal careers evolve as the profession itself changes.

This forward-looking discussion will consider some of the trends shaping legal work, including AI, technology and changing ways of working, and what these developments may mean for solicitors at different stages of their careers.

• Eleanor Daly (pictured) – director and associate general counsel at Meta where she leads the global corporate governance team,
• Jennifer O’Sullivan – solicitor and general counsel, founder of House of Counsel, a network supporting women working in-house, and Law Hero, which supports aspiring and early-career lawyers,
• Chris Murnane: works at intersection of law, technology and product for Eudia, a legal AI company,
• Chair: Bronagh O’Neill (head of Law Society Psychological Services and group analyst psychotherapist).
