Ireland’s relationship with ECtHR explored

A new series of podcasts launched last week looks at Ireland’s relationship with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The series is being presented by the Ireland’s permanent representation to the Council of Europe.

Ireland was one of ten founding members of the Council of Europe in 1949 and signed the European Convention on Human Rights in 1950.

Focus on history

The first episode features insights from Ireland’s ECtHR judge Justice Úna Ní Raifeartaigh, Chief Justice Dónal O’ Donnell, Prof Eunan O’Halpin, and associate professor Niamh Howlin.

The series begins with discussions on the history of the court, Ireland, and the convention.

Subsequent episodes are due to be released on 14 and 21 May.
