Irish human-rights-law expert Professor Aoife Nolan has been elected to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
The committee is a body of 18 independent experts that monitors the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child by its State parties.
Prof Nolan will serve a four-year term from 2027 to 2031.
Welcoming her election, Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee said that it demonstrated Ireland’s strong commitment to upholding human rights and advocating for those who defend human rights around the world.
Prof Nolan is Professor of International Human Rights Law at the University of Nottingham, where she is also director of its Human Rights Law Centre.
She is also president of the Council of Europe's European Committee of Social Rights.
