Bridging gap between legal and medical professions
The Expert Witness Site, in partnership with the Irish Hospital Consultants Association, held its first Expert Witness Report Writing Course in Dublin in late April at the Dublin Dispute Resolution Centre.
Delivered by Eavanna FitzGerald BL, Mark Tottenham BL, and Sarah Freeman BL, the session saw hospital consultants countrywide gather to equip themselves with the skills to produce expert witness reports that are robust, defensible, and easily understood.
By doing so, they strengthen their credibility, protect their professional reputation, and deliver expert evidence that stands up to scrutiny by cross-examiners and judges, attendees heard.
High standards
President of the High Court Mr Justice David Barniville, who attended, spoke about the importance of this initiative and of bridging the gap between the legal and medical professions.
He highlighted the quality of the course subject matter, saying that it would help ensure high standards of expert evidence coming before the Irish courts.
Joe Jeffers SC delivered a session on some of the cross-examination techniques used on expert witnesses in the High Court in Dublin.
