Mr Justice Keenan Johnson sworn in
The new President of the Circuit Court Mr Justice Keenan Johnson has been sworn in after a ceremony in the Supreme Court on Friday (17 July).
Mr Justice Johnson made his declaration under the Constitution in the Supreme Court in the presence of Chief Justice Mr Justice Donal O’Donnell.
He now begins his role and duties, which involve leading the Circuit Court's judicial administration and determining case distribution across the country's circuits.
The Circuit Court President also serves as an ex officio additional judge of the High Court, and sits on the Judicial Council and the board of the Courts Service.
Judge Johnson was born in Ballymote, Co Sligo and obtained a BCL (Bachelor of Civil Law) degree from UCD in 1979.
Former Law Society Council member
He was enrolled as a solicitor in 1982, practising with the firm of Johnson and Johnson Solicitors until his appointment as a Circuit Court Judge in April 2012.
Judge Johnson is also a qualified mediator and has a strong interest in ADR (alternative dispute resolution).
He was a member of the Law Society Council from 1994 to 2002, during which time he also chaired the Guidance and Ethics Committee.
