Acclaimed Blackhall advocacy masterclass back

The acclaimed Law Society advocacy masterclass (micro-credential) course will be offered again by Law Society Skillnet this year.

The training will be led again by renowned National Industrial Training Authority (NITA)-qualified expert Fiona Donnelly, in person at Blackhall Place on 21, 22, and 25 September.

Donnelly will be accompanied by Gemma Loughran (barrister and former judge of the County Court and High Court in the North) and solicitor Ruairi Gillen, who is an advanced advocate and experienced trainer.

The course aims to elevate the competency and confidence of attendees in analysing cases, making oral submissions, examining witnesses, and managing contentious matters before a tribunal or court.

Trial scenarios

The training prioritises active participation in sample case-studies and trial scenarios, and the skills learned and tools provided will be transferable across different court/tribunal settings (including arbitrations and regulatory panels).

All levels of experience and expertise will be catered for in small group work and with tailored feedback.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a Law Society micro-credential and 15 hours CPD (professional development and solicitor wellbeing by group study).

The course ran from 4-6 June last year and received a very positive response from attendees.

One participant said: “I thought the course was superb. The course format ensured that you were applying lessons learned and developing your advocacy skills and confidence with each course session. I would happily recommend this course to colleagues.”

Other comments from 2025 attendees described the tutors and speakers as “very impressive” and “exceptionally engaging”.

More information is available online, and booking is now open.
