Law Society 2026 MOOC starts on 9 June

The 2026 Law Society five-week massive open online course (MOOC) examining the intersection of artificial intelligence, social media, and the law will begin on 9 June.

The programme will be delivered through short recorded video lectures released weekly, alongside interactive online discussion forums, quizzes and live question-and-answer sessions with expert contributors.

The final panel discussion date will be announced shortly.

Societal frameworks

The course will explore the growing influence of artificial intelligence across legal and societal frameworks, with a focus on key issues such as liability, regulation, privacy, and data protection.

Additional topics include social-media bans, cybercrime, e-commerce, digital manipulation, and surveillance, as well as the broader impact of emerging technologies on workplaces and daily life.

The course is designed to provide a foundational overview and does not require prior knowledge of artificial intelligence or legal practice.

It is open to all participants, including legal professionals, trainees, barristers, students and individuals working in the technology and digital sectors, as well as members of the public with a general interest in the subject.

Each weekly module will be released on Tuesdays and will include a series of short presentations delivered by a range of speakers, including lawyers, academics, and public figures.

Participants will also have access to supplementary reading materials and will be able to engage directly with presenters through moderated discussion forums.

The course builds on a series of Law Society MOOCs, launched in 2014, which have collectively attracted more than 40,000 participants from over 115 countries.

Large-scale participation

These courses are structured to accommodate large-scale participation while maintaining interactive elements through digital platforms.

Participants who complete the required weekly tasks and assessments will have the option to obtain a digital certificate of completion, subject to payment of an administrative fee.

The course also offers continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities, with up to seven CPD hours available to eligible participants.

The MOOC will be delivered entirely online, allowing participants to access course materials remotely and at their own pace.
