CCPC clears takeover of Donegal newspaper

The competition watchdog has cleared a proposed deal in the media sector after an in-depth investigation.

In August, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) had said that it would examine the plan by Formpress Publishing to buy D&D Media.

D&D Media owns the Inishowen Independent newspaper in Donegal and its website inishowenindo.ie.

Formpress Publishing owns and operates several local and regional newspaper titles across Ireland. It is part of a British-based holding company called Media Concierge (Holdings) Limited.

On Friday (18 October), the competition body said that it had decided that the proposed deal would not substantially lessen competition.

The deal is now, however, subject to further approval by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media.
