The Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment has appointed solicitor Clara Thornton as a member of Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), with effect from 2 November.
Thornton is a senior regulatory executive with more than 16 years’ experience spanning competition, consumer protection, product safety, and digital regulation.
She has held senior leadership and advisory positions in both the CCPC and in the private sector, she has led complex regulatory investigations, enforcement actions, compliance programmes, and legislative initiatives in Ireland and across Europe.
Including chair Brian McHugh, Thornton’s appointment now brings the commission membership to four. Úna Butler and Geoffrey Gray are the other two members.
The department says that her appointment will further strengthen and support the CCPC’s mandate of promoting and protecting competition and consumer rights.
Minister Peter Burke said that Thornton's expertise and experience would be of "immense value" to the commission.
