Views sought on firearms group’s recommendations

The Department of Justice has launched a consultation process on recommendations made by a committee set up advise the Government on issues related to firearms.

The Firearms Expert Committee (FEC) published its final reports in March, making a number of recommendations on licensing and training requirements for those using firearms in the State.

The committee was chaired by solicitor Emma Meagher Neville.

Online platform

Minister of State James Browne (pictured) had stated throughout the FEC process that no changes to policy or legislation arising from any of the recommendations would be implemented without prior consultation with stakeholders.

Minister Browne has now launched an online consultation platform that allow interested parties to indicate their level of support for all of the substantive recommendations of the FEC.

The online consultation will close on Friday 2 June 2023.
