Special Criminal Court judges on move

Judge Gerard Griffin is to move from the Special Criminal Courts (1 and 2) with immediate effect.

Judge Elma Sheahan, of the Circuit Court, is now assigned to the Special Criminal Courts 1 and 2) with immediate effect.

Judge Martina Baxter (small picture) is also assigned to the Dublin Circuit of the Circuit Court.

Past Law Society President Gerard Griffin retired from the Circuit Court on 8 January having served as a Circuit Court judge since 2007.

Judge Griffin was educated in Belvedere College, Dublin, and is a graduate of UCD.

Law Society

He was admitted to the roll of solicitors in 1978, and was first nominated to the Law Society Council in 1982 as a representative of the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association. He was elected to the Council in his own right in 1987.

He became junior vice-president in 1998, senior vice-president in 2002 and served as president of the Law Society for the year 2003/2004.

Judge Griffin chaired many of the Law Society’s committees during his 25-year tenure on Council – including finance registrar’s, compensation fund, and litigation.
