Solicitors have been advised about new rules on subpoenas, after changes to the Rules of the Superior Courts came into effect recently.
The rules set out how the courts deal with requests or applications to direct witnesses to attend court proceedings.
Practitioners must now serve subpoenas on witnesses “not later than 14 days” before the first date on which they are asking the witness to attend court.
This applies unless the witness consents to shorter notice, or the period of notice to the witness is abridged by order of a court.
The statutory instrument amending the rules came into effect on 3 October 2023.
