Inaugural copyright lecture to probe evolving landscape

The inaugural joint Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and Law Society annual copyright lecture takes place on 18 February.

The theme is ‘European copyright law, from the printing press to the digital age –  a journey of constant change’.

This free lecture will be delivered by Dr Mark Hyland, the IMRO and Law Society adjunct professor of intellectual property law.

Fast-changing

The annual lecture is part of a response to the fast-changing digital landscape and the inevitable ongoing effects on copyright law and practice.

The part-time adjunct professor position at Blackhall Place is being funded by IMRO with the goal of contributing to the national debate on copyright issues, including music rights. Dr Hyland is a lecturer in international IP law at Bangor Law School in Wales.

His current research covers website-blocking injunctions in an IP context, and how geolocation and geo-blocking technologies can be used to facilitate the territorial licensing of digital copyright works.

Expertise

The adjunct professor’s expertise is being used to contribute to IP modules at the law school for the teaching of intellectual property and IP law.

Dr Hyland said: “As well as being immensely important work which makes a huge contribution to the economy, IP is a very fulfilling and interesting field of practice.”

The lecture will be delivered at six pm on 18 February at the Education Centre, Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7.

Attendance yields one general CPD point and tickets can be booked now.
