Crash-era pay cuts will be restored to coroners
Justice minister Charlie Flanagan has pledged an upward review of coroner remuneration, likely leading to a restoration of their eight per cent pay cut under the 2009 Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Act.
Speaking at the Coroners Society annual dinner in Portlaoise on 8 September 2018, the Minister said the review would also address the calculation of appropriate retainers in each coroner district.
“Coroners encounter complex problems and sensitive issues,” in carrying out their functions, the Minister told the gathering.
Demands
“The urgent demands of society and next of kin increasingly place a heavy burden on you to ensure the best possible public investigation into the cause of death in those cases reported to you,” he said.
