International Transfers

If the firm transfers personal data outside the European Economic Area (this includes the UK from 31 January 2020), it will need to ensure that it has considered whether additional safeguards are required to protect the data.

Examples of where the firm would transfer data outside the EEA include communications to clients that are located outside the EEA or use of service providers that may store the firm’s data outside the EEA (for example cloud-based practice management software).

Further information on international transfers and the GDPR is available on the Data Protection Commission website.
