Back to the Future: The Work of a Solicitor in the Year 2050

Aim and Objectives
This seminar, presented by the Younger Members Committee in partnership with Law Society Professional Training, will focus on what the future holds for the working lives of solicitors through the next 30 years.

The Younger Members Committee hope this will be a lively and interesting conference, with a diverse and interesting panel of speakers. The event is aimed at lawyers at all stages of their careers, and the panel discussions will follow the presentations to allow for an interactive session. The seminar will also see the launch of the results of the recent survey on remote and flexible working.

Chief Justice Mr Frank Clarke
Mr. Justice Frank Clarke was appointed the 12th Chief Justice of Ireland on the 28th July, 2017, by the President of Ireland, His Excellency Mr. Michael D. Higgins, having been a judge of the Supreme Court since 2012. He was born in Walkinstown, Dublin in October, 1951. He was educated at Drimnagh Castle CBS and University College Dublin where he was awarded a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics (1972). Having completed his legal studies at King's Inns he was called to the Bar in 1973 and to the Inner Bar in 1985. While at the Bar Mr. Justice Clarke served for many years on the Bar Council including a term of two years (1993-1995) as its Chair. Mr. Justice Clarke has been a Bencher of the Honourable Society of the King's Inns since 1994. 


Catherine Guy, CEO, Sixt Leasing Ireland
Catherine Guy took up the role of CEO of Autolease Fleet Management trading as Niftibusiness in September 2019. Prior to this she was Managing Partner for six years at ByrneWallace, one of Irelands largest law firms, where she was a partner for over 20 years. As Managing Partner, she led the development and growth of the business. Catherine holds a BCL from UCD and is qualified as a Chartered Director from the Institute of Directors. In 2013 Catherine joined the board of Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) which has responsibility for delivery of services by the three children’s hospitals in Dublin, and is a member of the Governance and Capital Projects committees of CHI.

Tiernan Brady, Global Director of Inclusion at Clifford Chance 
Tiernan is the Global Director of Inclusion for Clifford Chance. He is an equality campaigner and was the Political Director of the successful Irish referendum campaign for marriage equality which saw Ireland become the first country in the world to introduce marriage equality by a public vote. He subsequently became the Executive Director of The Equality Campaign, the successful Australian public vote campaign for marriage equality. They remain the only two countries in the world to have introduced marriage equality through a public vote. He is the Director of Equal Future, a global campaign working with LGBT faith groups to deliver equality. He served as Policy Director of GLEN – The Gay and Lesbian Equality Network in Ireland where he was responsible for designing and implementing the successful political strategy to pass civil unions legislation. He was the Director of Gay HIV Strategies where he designed and launched KnowNow, Ireland's first free community based rapid HIV testing program. He served as Director of Organisation to the then Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) of Ireland, Mary Coughlan as well as serving two terms as Mayor of his home town of Bundoran in Ireland.

Daniel Davey, Consultant Performance Nutritionist
Daniel Davey is the senior performance nutritionist for the Dublin Senior football team and Leinster rugby, 2018 Champions cup winners. Daniel also works as a performance nutritionist with a host of elite athletes in a range of sports such as hockey, golf and athletics. Daniel received his BSc in Science from University College Dublin and holds an MSc in Nutrition, Physical Activity & Public Health from the University of Bristol. Daniel is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S) with the NSCA, and has completed the national qualification in Exercise and Health Studies. Daniel is a committed athlete himself and has played Gaelic football at intercounty level for Sligo and won an All-Ireland club football medal in 2016 with Ballyboden St’ Enda’s in Dublin.
