Aim and Objectives
The International Affairs Talk is an annual event organised by the EU & International Affairs Committee of the Law Society which brings together high profile national and international speakers to discuss current international issues. Previous talks include: the Role of the Oireachtas under the Lisbon Treaty; The Arab Spring: What next? – Restoring the rule of law in MENA Countries; External Relations, Security and Defence in the EU; The Ukraine Crisis: legal and political issue; The Refugee crises: A challenge for Europe and International response to Terrorism: Local Effects; Cyberattacks – the legal response.

The IX Annual International Affairs Talk will bring together experts in the sports law field to address a number of international issues and the implications for the legal practitioner and their clients. This event will be of interest to all lawyers.

Speaker/Chair: 
Helen Kilroy, McCann FitzGerald and Vice-Chair of the Irish Sport Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel
Helen’s practice covers commercial disputes, related advisory work and mediation. She has wide-ranging experience in corporate disputes, particularly shareholder disagreements and breach of warranty claims.  She advises law firms and their insurers in professional negligence claims and partnerships in various professions. She has wide-ranging experience in property disputes, compulsory purchases, statutory investigations and enforcement. She is an accredited CEDR mediator and has conducted over 150 commercial disputes.

Speakers:
Barry Lysaght, FIFA, Legal Counsel and Group Leader  
Barry Lysaght is a solicitor specialising in the regulation of the international football transfer market. Since joining FIFA in 2012, he has led major investigations into breaches of the FIFA regulations, resulting in landmark decisions before the FIFA Disciplinary Committee concerning third-party ownership, third-party influence and the protection of minors. He holds a Masters in Sports Law with Distinction from De Montfort University in Leicester, where his dissertation on private football academies won the Sky Sports Award for Best Thesis. A published contributor on sports law, Barry has also lectured at the International Football Business Institute in Brussels, Belgium.

Louise Reilly, BL
Louise Reilly is a barrister who specialises in sports law and international arbitration. She represents clients in disciplinary and commercial matters before domestic and international tribunals. Louise also sits as arbitrator. She is the Irish alternate member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris, and a member of the Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators of Sport Resolutions, UK. Louise holds several academic positions, including Visiting Professor of International Arbitration at Western Law School in Canada, Adjunct Assistant Professor of International Dispute Resolution at Trinity College Dublin, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at University College Dublin.  Prior to returning to private practice, Louise was Managing Counsel and Head of Mediation at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
