Applications are open for a learning and work placement in Paris from October-November 2024.

About the opportunity

Every year, the Paris Bar organises an International Stage in Paris and invites a limited number of lawyers from each jurisdiction to participate. The stage is a fantastic opportunity for lawyers to discover and practise French law in the heart of Paris

The stage takes place during the months of October and November and entails: one month attending classes at the l’Ecole de Formation du Barreau, and one month of work experience in a law firm in Paris. The programme also includes a visit to Brussels to the European institutions. The Irish participant will be selected by the EU & International Affairs Committee of the Law Society of Ireland. Candidates must:

  • be qualified in Ireland and registered in the Law Society of Ireland,

  • have a good knowledge of French,

  • be under 40 years old, and

  • have insurance cover (for accidents and damages).

Tuition is fully covered by the Paris Bar, while the EU & International Affairs Committee will sponsor the participant with €3,500. Candidates must be willing to cover other expenses (such as, travel, accommodation, meals) from this sponsorship or their own funds. More information on the programme is available on the Avocat Paris website.

How to apply

To apply, please send your CV and a letter explaining your interest in the stage (in both English and French) to the EU & International Affairs Committee Secretary, Megan Murphy Byrne. The application deadline is Friday, 15 March 2024.
