Prisoner appeals panel

The Irish Prison Service seeks expressions of interest for appointment to a panel of legal representatives for prisoner appeals.

Background

Under section 16 of the Prisons Act 2007, a prisoner may appeal against a finding or sanction of a governor for a breach of prison discipline.

These prisoners are entitled to have their appeal heard by an independent Appeal Tribunal and to be legally represented at the hearing. The Irish Prison Servce intends to compile a panel of legal representatives or law firms who are willing to provide legal services in accordance with the Prisons Act.

Requirements

Interested barristers or solicitors, currently practising and with a minimum of three years practice experience are invited to apply for inclusion on the panel. The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 1 March 2024.
