IBA Mental Wellbeing Survey

The International Bar Association (IBA) has launched a mental wellbeing initiative with two global surveys, one for individuals, and the other for legal institutions.

Addressing wellbeing in the global profession

The initiative is aimed at addressing the mental wellbeing of legal professionals as COVID-19 exacerbates tensions in our professional and personal lives. We encourage solicitors and firms across Ireland to participate in these surveys to help the IBA inform their timely project.

The surveys seek to answer various questions: what impact does being a lawyer have on your mental wellbeing? What are law firms doing to help their employees? Do you feel more or less able to talk about your mental wellbeing with your employer than before the Covid-19 pandemic? What can bar associations and law societies be doing to assist their members?

Data gathered from the surveys will be discussed in detail by the IBA’s Wellbeing Taskforce in a showcase session at the IBA 2020 – Virtually Together Conference in November. The surveys are short, anonymous, and open to members and non-members.
