Diploma courses to support your practice

The Law Society offers a wide range of CPD courses to help you keep you up-to-date, including diplomas in practice management and trust and estate planning.

Practice management standard

You will soon be able to apply for and gain certification for your practice through the Legal Services Excellence Standard (LSES) so you can show your clients that your services are performed at the highest levels of excellence. The LSES has been designed by solicitors for solicitors in collaboration with the National Standards Authority of Ireland.

Diploma in Legal Practice Management

If you would like help to prepare for the assessment for the LSES, the Law Society Skillnet Diploma in Legal Practice Management starting on 20 March offers training in the establishment and operational management of a legal firm from a business, human resources, and financial management perspective. If you are a sole principal, managing partner, solicitor with management responsibilities or are about to start a law firm, this course might be for you. It also qualifies for the full 2024 CPD requirement and for ease of access lectures are online, with some workshops on site.

Estate and Trust planning

If you’re seeking a practical insight into estate planning, legal and tax-based concerns for private clients in the area of trust and estates, you might be interested in the Diploma in Trust and Estate Planning which commences on 21 September 2024. On successful completion, you will be able to advise clients on all aspects of the creation of wills, operation of trusts, associated tax implications and overall estate planning for clients. Delivered by the Law Society in partnership with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), this course will highlight recent judicial decisions and key legislative developments and examine the impact of recent developments on practice and procedure. Some relevant experience is required.
