As one of the information services we provide to support solicitors, the Law Society Library has recently expanded its collection of resources on cybersecurity in a new Subject Guide.

We know that cybersecurity is a growing challenge for the profession and have created this central resource to help you understand the basics of cybersecurity.

The guide highlights library resources available to support solicitors in practice and brings together other Law Society guidance on cybersecurity as well as legislation and government policies.

Solicitors and trainees can use the guide to:

  • research law and policy on cybersecurity

  • view books and eBooks available on cybersecurity law and practice, cybersecurity in relation to privacy and data protection law in the EU and cybercrime

  • find links to relevant Irish and EU legislation, including the EU’s Cybersecurity Act and Digital Operational Resilience Act.

The ‘policy and guidance’ section gives an overview of cybersecurity policies at a European level, government policy documents on cybersecurity and cybercrime and links to guidance documents available from the Law Society covering cybersecurity and your practice.

Further resources of interest from the library collection include books and eBooks on understanding the fundamentals of cybersecurity and related topics such as blockchain and legal tech and a list of journal article abstracts on cybersecurity with a focus on the legal profession.

Upcoming courses

As included in the Subject Guide, the Law Society continues to provide upskilling and further training in the area of cybersecurity.
