Views sought on post-pandemic recovery

The Government is asking employers, unions, environment groups and non-governmental bodies to give their views on how the country’s economy can recover after COVID-19 and the end of the Brexit transition period.

More than 200 groups have registered to attend a virtual event today (21 October) as part of the development of a National Economic Plan.

Three themes

The plan, which the Government says will set the priorities and objectives for Ireland’s medium-term economic recovery, will be structured around three themes: building resilience for businesses; an inclusive and balanced economy; and future-proofing the Irish economy and society.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the plan provided an opportunity to ensure that the short-term responses to COVID-19 and Brexit were consistent with longer-term goals.

“Notwithstanding the current high levels of uncertainty, we need to begin thinking about where we want our economy to be in 2025 and beyond,” he said.
