Legal analysis of Brexit deal implications published

The founding director of the DCU Brexit Institute is the editor of a new book on the Withdrawal Agreement between the UK and the EU.

The Law & Politics of Brexit. Volume II. The Withdrawal Agreement, edited by Professor Federico Fabbrini, analyses the deal from a legal and political perspective.

Published by Oxford University Press, it includes a preface by the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier and is the result of work undertaken at the DCU Brexit Institute.

Overview

The book provides an overview of the process of Brexit negotiations that took place between the UK and the EU from 2017 to 2019, and examines the key provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement deal relating to the protection of citizens’ rights, the Irish border and the financial settlement.

It also looks at the longer-term challenges that implementing the outcome of the 2016 Brexit referendum poses for the UK territorial system and for British-Irish relations, as well as for the future of the EU beyond Brexit.

Professor Fabbrini edited a previous volume called The Law & Politics of Brexit and a third volume, called The Framework of Future EU-UK Relations, will be published next year.
