‘Antiquated’ SC site update to give judgment synopses

The Supreme Court will return to giving synopses of its judgments in court, post-pandemic, and may consider posting visual summaries online, the Chief Justice Frank Clarke said on 1 March.

Speaking at the NUI Galway Law Society 100th anniversary, he said that the current Supreme Court website was “antiquated” and subject to current review.

Serious consideration to judgment synopses

“We’re giving serious consideration to having on our website a synopsis of each judgment as it is delivered,” he said.

“That would increase access to justice. The more people that can see what actually goes on, the better, because most of what goes on is quite good.

“Sometimes, bad impressions of the court are due to people not understanding us,” the chief justice said.

TV cameras were allowed to film Supreme Court proceedings for the first time in October 2017.
