Strong Blackhall turnout in student debating contest
The Solicitors’ Apprentices’ Debating Society of Ireland (SADSI) has 11 trainees through to the four semi-finals of The Irish Times Debate which are taking place over this week and next.
Last night (1 February) the team of Niamh Egleston and Hugh Fitzgibbon (both Arthur Cox) and individual speakers Srishti Kumar (A&L Goodbody) and Kevin Seery (Matheson) spoke on the motion ‘This house believes that Fianna Fáil is a party without a future’.
The chair was TD Marc MacSharry.
Rousing
A rousing performance saw participants from Trinity College and Queen’s in Belfast go through.
SADSI individual speakers remaining in the competition include Pierce Lyons (Mason Hayes & Curran) and Lauren McLoughlin (Maples Group), who will both compete tomorrow (3 February).
On Tuesday (8 February) Jeffrey Hovenden Keane (Flynn O’Driscoll) will participate, while on Thursday next week (10 February) the following teams perform:
- Ross Merriman (Mason Hayes and Curran) and Conor White (Arthur Cox),
- James Curtis (William Fry) and Daire Cassidy (Flynn O’Driscoll).
All of the semi-finals are taking place by Zoom.
SADSI hosted several rounds of the quarter-finals at Blackhall Place in December.
